2016 Faith in Action Diocesan Appeal

For the past 36 years the Diocese of Juneau has held its annual Faith In Action Stewardship Appeal. The purpose of this appeal is to raise funds to support the work of the Diocesan Chancery. It raises funds for operations, outreach, mission and ministry support.

The appeal, held annually during the months of October, November and December, also provides an opportunity for each parish to raise funds for their own special projects. Each parish is assigned a pro-rated goal. You can donate directly to your parish through their own website and online giving program. Any amount raised above the pro-rated goal stays with the parish.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

The theme of this year’s Faith in Action appeal is ‘Charity - the Heart of Mercy’. In declaring this year an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, Pope Francis said, “Special care should always be shown to emphasize and encourage the highest and most central values of the Gospel, particularly the primacy of charity, as a response to the completely gratuitous offer of God’s love.” (Misericordiae Vultus)

As faithful Catholics, we believe that mercy includes the practice of charity through the Corporal and Spiritual works of Mercy. By participating in the Faith in Action appeal, we reflect our gratitude for the charity shown to us by our Heavenly Father. Giving to the Faith in Action appeal allows the Catholic community to demonstrate mercy and love of God throughout Southeast Alaska.

Through your gift, the Diocese is able to provide liturgical, sacramental, catechetical, and  financial assistance to the 9 parishes and the 17 mission communities in Southeast Alaska. Your donations also play a crucial part in the formation of seminarians, priests, and deacons who serve us throughout their lives – even in retirement.

Please join me in giving to the 2016 Diocesan Faith in Action appeal so we can help make God’s love and mercy a reality for people in our parishes, communities and throughout our diocese.

Thomas Aquinas said, “Charity by its very nature has no limit to its increase, for it is a participation in that infinite charity which is the Holy Spirit.” May that same Spirit bestow blessings to you and your loved ones.

Sincerely in Christ,

Bishop Edward J. Burns
