A Statement from Bishop Andrew Bellisario, C.M. on yesterday’s fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris
- April 16th, 2019 • Bishop Andrew Bellisario, C.M.
Yesterday, Catholics and people of good will, not only in France but around the world grieved as they watched the terrible images of Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral in flames. Fortunately, through the intercession of Our Lady and the efforts of hundreds of brave firefighters, this historic and beloved house of prayer appears to have escaped destruction. In the midst of what has been lost, the Cross remains, the altar remains, this cathedral dedicated to Our Blessed Mother remains, and most importantly, the faith we share in Christ Jesus remains and endures in spite of every danger and difficulty.
During this holiest of weeks, may we, throughout this diocese, continue to support the faithful and people of Paris and their Archbishop with our prayers as they begin to rebuild their cathedral.
