Bishop's Radio Spot Highlights Recent Catholic Extension Visit
- June 23rd, 2011 • General
Fr. Boniface Hicks of WAOB (We Are One Body) Radio recently visited the Diocese of Juneau. WAOB Radio is a Catholic radio station at 106.7 on the FM dial in Western Pennsylvania. The station is devoted to catechizing Pennsylvania by broadcasting,
- Readings of papal and other Church documents
- Audio of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass being celebrated
- Commentary on Catholic subjects.
As it turned out, Fr. Boniface's visit coincided with a visit from Catholic Extension staff. Catholic Extension strengthens the Church's presence and mission in under-resourced and isolated communities across the United States. The Diocese of Juneau is a missionary diocese which requires external financial support in order to maintain the work of the Church in this region of the world. Catholic Extension is one of the most significant contributors to enabling the Diocese of Juneau to accomplish its four-fold mission of proclaiming the Gospel, celebrating the sacraments, serving those in need, and inviting all to know, love and follow Jesus Christ.
Just before boarding his plane back to Pennsylvania, Fr. Boniface opened a special iPhone app for creating news reports and invited Bishop Burns to record a spot about the visit of Catholic Extension staff to Juneau which could be broadcast on WAOB radio back in the Bishop's former home state of Pennsylvania. The audio of this radio spot can be accessed by clicking on the link below.
